Lieutenant-Governor John Graves Simcoe named the City of Vaughan (formerly Vaughan Township) in honor of British diplomat Benjamin Vaughan. He was co-negotiator of the Peace of Paris, which ended the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). It is the fifth-largest municipality in the Greater Toronto Area, and the 17th biggest city in Canada.
Vaughan is bordered by Brampton and Caledon to the west, King/Richmond Hill and Markham/Richmond Hill, and Toronto to its east. It is approximately 25 minutes away from Downtown Toronto.
